The event has been compared with the Commodore’s Cup in stature, but the yachts are selected by club not nation. This is the Royal Lymington Challenge Cup andwas an immense success in June 2009.
The Challenge Cup attracted eight teams for 2009’s inaugural event and was won by the three-boat team of Zelda (Michael Ewart-Smith), Salvo (Peter Morton) and Yes! (Adam Gosling) of the Royal Yacht Squadron.
The three rating bands have provisionally changed to: Class 1 - 1.029 - 1.080, Class 2 - 0.991 - 1.028, Class 3 - 0.950 - 0.990. These will be reviewed again in early 2010. The crew classification of one Cat. 3 on each yacht, only helming if they are majority owner will stay the same.
“This year we attracted some highly competitive yachts and crews, including many class and club champions, from an A-list of yacht clubs” commented event Chairman Chris Neve.
