New Larger Ferries
The Club is grateful to Lymington Harbour Commissioners for preparing the report. It addresses the important issues and though we have detailed comments on a range of issues, overall we think the report is a sound basis for giving confidence in the outcome of the assessment and sea trials process. The Club fully supports the process LHC are using and accepts the technical findings in the BMT Phase 1 Report. The Club’s objections to the W Class ferry expressed some six months ago included - but were not limited to - reduced speed limits particularly in Horn Reach creating increased ‘presence’ impacting Wednesday Junior Sailing and a risk of increased regulation on sailing in the River. Following the publication of a revised version of the report following a request from the Club for clarification, the report removes these threats, subject to the sea trials. The Club welcomes these findings. As will be seen in the detail comments in this paper, we think the report has not developed its technical analysis in respect of thruster impact and wind effects as far it might to reach conclusions of use to the community.
