Intended Cruising

Members are encouraged by their Cruising sub-Committee to use the new form, see below, to record their proposed Cruising.  Our objectives are to allow Members to:

  • see what boats are going where and when, (to help you to shape your own "Cruising Plan" and perhaps arrange meetings en route or joint cruising with other Members. Amalgamated Plans will be displayed on the website, with a paper copy in the Chart Room).
  • more easily plan a cruise, (see who else has been recently to areas you are thinking of visiting and perhaps help you to enhance your own sailing adventure).
  • expand their Cruising Plan into a brief account of their cruise, (Members are encouraged to review and update their Plan as they cruise and at the end of the sailing season, to produce a brief narrative to assist others considering visiting that area. The narrative will be filed in the Chart Room and can also be entered for award of a Cruising Trophy, see below).

HOW TO GET STARTED – set out in broad outline your proposed itinerary, using the form below, (remember it can be updated at a later stage). It should then be emailed to peterlowe@rya-online.net or office@rlymyc.org.uk where it will be entered onto the Club’s Website.  Plans can be viewed only in the “Cruising” section, by ‘clicking’ on the ‘Intended Cruise’ button. For security reasons, personal contact details of the boat’s owner can only be obtained from the Club Handbook or the “Member’s Area” of the website (if unsure how to access the latter, please contact the office or a member of the Cruising sub committee).

An example of the information put on the Cruising Plan form could be (part completed):

HOW TO UPDATE YOUR PLAN – during the Season simply email a revised version of your original form, highlighting the changes, to peterlowe@rya-online.net or office@rlymyc.org.uk  . Towards the end of the Season we will email you, inviting you to update your Cruising Plan with information relating to your actual ports of call.

HOW TO ENTER FOR A CRUISING AWARD – each November we will invite you to submit a narrative, of no more than 1,000 words, about your recent cruise and to enter it for one of the Cruising Award Trophies. Please note that you do not have to have used the Cruising Plan form to produce a narrative, nor is it compulsory to enter your narrative for consideration for a Trophy!
